The limit switch acts as an available transmitter for control systems. As soon as the moving part of the system reaches a certain end position, the status of the contacts changes. Limit switches are a certain protection against exceeding the limit position of the actuator, which may result not only in damage to the machine itself, but also to its environment.
Limit switches are widely used in industry as a safety element for robots, assembly and transport equipment (e.g. overhead travelling cranes). They are also used in building automation, e.g. in electrically controlled gates and roller blinds. Therefore, there is a wide range of limit switches on the market, which differ in terms of the type of head (roller lever, plunger, spring, pin plunger, etc.), dimensions, contact current, type of connector, output configuration and many other features. Products with high ingress protection (e.g. IP67 class), prepared to operate in dusty or damp conditions, are also available. When selecting the limit switch, one should also pay attention to the type of contact (usually NO+NC) and current parameters – maximum contact current, load capacity and switching voltage. Mechanical durability will also be important for heavily used machines. In the case of very small applications, a micro limit switch will be a suitable solution.
TME offers more than 900 limit switches of various types. Thanks to a precise search system, you can sort them on the basis of a wide range of factors, including all the design aspects and electrical parameters mentioned above. Models with a metal and plastic body are available in various ingress protection options (from IP00, through basic IP40, to IP67). Switches can also be easily selected according to the operating temperature. TME offers limit switches of many brands with long experience in the industry, such as: Pizzato Elettrica, Honeywell, Siemens and Polish POKÓJ S.E.
