No, a rechargeable lithium-ion battery does not need to be charged exclusively with the original charger, but the charger used must be technically compatible, safe and matched to the parameters of the device.
Modern lithium-ion Rechargeable Batteries require precise control of the charging voltage and current so that the process is safe and does not shorten the life of the cell. This function is usually supervised by the device's built-in battery management system (BMS), which protects the battery from overcharging, overheating or charging too quickly. However, the wrong charger, e.g. a cheap counterfeit or uncertified model, can generate unstable voltage, electromagnetic interference or too much current. In extreme cases, this leads to chemical degradation of the cell, loss of capacity and even the risk of overheating or ignition.
The most important thing is that the charger is compatible with the voltage and amperage required by the device. Good quality Power Supplies, even replacements, should be certified (e.g. CE, UL, FCC) and equipped with protection systems - short circuit, overcurrent and temperature. When charging via USB-C connectors, it is also important to comply with fast charging standards, such as USB Power Delivery (PD) or Qualcomm Quick Charge. Non-compliance can result in slow charging or a completely unresponsive device.
Chargers supplied with your device are designed with your device's specific energy needs in mind and are tailored to your battery's operating profile. They therefore offer the highest assurance of correct charging, but are not the only safe option as long as the replacement used is proven and branded.
