In machine parks, the operation of electric motors is a fundamental challenge for both electricians and health and safety specialists. Machines must be protected in the event of disturbances in the power supply. In addition, the device, as well as the installation itself, must be protected against overloads that can be caused by incorrect operation, leakage and especially a failure or even a simple short circuit. And all this becomes of secondary importance in the face of the key issue, namely the protection of the health and life of machine operators. Motor switch – a guarantee of smooth operation

Motor switches are essential elements for the proper functioning of machines. They are electromechanical components whose main purpose is to switch the drive on and off. They are primarily a safety device: in the event of blockage, overload, phase failure, the motor switch automatically cuts off the power supply. These features save space in control cabinets because they eliminate the need for additional fuses. The motor circuit breakers themselves are compact in size, require little installation space, and provide quick response to a short circuit by switching off the motor within milliseconds.

Thermal and magnetic protection of electric motors

The protection is implemented by means of magneto-thermal safety feature integrated in the motor switch. The magnetic protection (short-circuit protection) has a non-adjustable cut-off threshold, and its value is usually a multiplicity of the maximum current setting of the thermal protection. The latter is used for overload protection of the motor and is designed for automatic compensation of variable ambient temperatures. The rated motor current is set by the installation technician using a knob.

Motor switches – a guarantee of safe operation

The motor switches are designed with the safety of personnel in mind. All parts that can be energized have been built in so that they cannot be touched. The addition of under-voltage protection ensures that the motor power supply is switched off in the event of a drop in voltage or a power outage. To reactivate the switch, press the button or set the knob to Start "I". In this way the user is protected against a sudden start of the machine after the power supply voltage returns. Moreover, the switches can be locked in the Stop "0" position. Motor switches in the open (Stop) position provide a safe and visible isolating break (indication of the position of the main contacts through the position of the button or knob).
