Infineon Technologies AG is a German semiconductor manufacturer based in Neubiberg near Munich, which was spun off from Siemens AG in 1999.
Infineon AG is the world's largest manufacturer of power semiconductor components - discrete components and power modules. The leading position was consolidated in 2015 with the acquisition of International Rectifier (IRF), (IRF), which completed the product portfolio in the most important group of MOSFET transistors.
In 2020, Infineon AG acquired Cypress Semiconductor (CYP). This expanded the product portfolio to include a variety of microcontrollers, components used in communications (Human-Machine Interface, HMI), high-performance memories, and dedicated development environments (software ecosystem). The above elements are complemented by power semiconductors, as well as microcontrollers used in the automotive industry and data protection solutions from Infineon AG. The combination of these technological resources enables advanced solutions for a wide range of modern applications.
Infineon Technologies has focused on four main segments of its business, creating a specialised group of people (a division) for each:
- Automotive (ATV) - a division focused on the development and production of solutions and components for use in the automotive industry. The components offered are certified for use in vehicles. These are mainly microcontrollers, sensors, transistors, communication circuits, radar solutions and other components that improve comfort and safety.
- Industrial Power Control (IPC) - semiconductor power components for the conversion and distribution of electricity, with particular emphasis on reducing power losses. These solutions are used in wind power plants, solar solutions, power supplies and motor inverters.
- Power Management & Multimarket (PMM) - the broadest group of popular semiconductor components used in consumer electronics, industrial automation, motor control, power supplies, and lighting solutions.
- Chip Card & Security - special solutions for data protection.
