We have recently added another embedded systems solution to our TME offering - this time these are the latest Single board computers from AAEON, specifically model UP 710S.
Computers of this type are commonly used in industrial automation, as part of Building Automation systems (control panels in an intelligent building), public utilities (e.g. ticket machines, vending machines), and even street advertising and art installations. Another of the areas exploiting the benefits of SBCs is robotics.
AAEON is one of the leading manufacturers offering single board computers from the UpBridge series. It is to this group that the UP 710S model recommended here belongs, whose key specifications are:
- intel® N100 processor (quad-core 3.40GHz),
- Intel® UHD Graphics,
- rAM LPDDR5 with 8GB;
- embedded memory 64GB eMMC acting as a hard drive;
- real time clock (RTC);
- availability of many popular interfaces (HDMI, USB 3.2, USB 2.0, UART, RS232/422/485, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, GPIO);
- expansion slot M.2 2230 E;
- passive cooling (Heatsinks);
- compact dimensions (85mm x 56mm);

The computer's parameters make it successful e.g. in controlling robotic arms such as pick-and-place on assembly lines. The motherboard allows communication with a wide range of industrial controllers without additional hardware, thanks to a selection of built-in serial interfaces. Support of a high-resolution camera allows seamless image capture of each component for sorting, and accelerated image processing by the coprocessor significantly reduces the load on the CPU.
