(1 465)Coaxial connection cables are used for connection applications in various installations that send high-frequency signals. Unlike other connection types, such as the twisted-pair cables used in Ethernet networks, these cables are highly resistant to interference. This is due to their coaxial design (conductor surrounded by a tubular insulating layer).
The viability of coaxial cables in a given application relies mostly on the system's wave impedance. Commonly produced cables have resistances of 50 ohm or 75 ohm. The 75 ohm cables are mostly used in television antenna installations.
Another deciding factor in the possible use of these cables are their end connector types. Most commonly used connectors include BNC, TNC, F, N, SMA and regular – coaxial. All of them are either straight or angled.
When choosing a coaxial cable you must check the connectors on both of its ends and make sure that you are not confusing a socket for a connector. When needed, you can look for suitable adapters. The cable's length is important here. If the cable needs to be long, it's better to consider a model equipped with a suppressor. Screen quality is also important. A thick copper braid is significantly more efficient than an aluminum braid. Additionally, a thin layer of gold improves the connection quality.
