Desktop power supplies are very common in office spaces or homes. They are used, among other things, to power video surveillance systems, audio systems, game consoles, TVs, LED lighting and many other electrical devices.
Desktop power supplies, unlike modular power supplies, are entirely safe for users. They are fully enclosed, which minimises the risk of electric shock. Their modular counterparts have an open-frame design. This in turn translates into the fact that their electrical contacts are not well protected against physical contact. To reduce the risk of electric shock, such a power supply must be additionally protected. In the case of desktop power supplies, there is no need for such a protection, as their construction prevents contact with live parts.
Depending on the intended application, you can choose between a constant voltage or a constant current desktop power supply. The former is characterised by a constant voltage at the output, irrespective of the resistance of the load. It is suitable, for example, for powering LED lighting with adjustable brightness. In the case of DC power supplies, the output current is a constant value, while the value of the supplied voltage falls within a certain range. This type of desktop power supplies is less popular, nevertheless it proves useful in certain applications.
TME catalogue offers desktop power supplies equipped with popular IEC C8 and IEC C14 connectors, however, our offer also includes power supplies equipped with less common terminals. The connectors are available in angled and straight versions.
