Miniature PCB-mounted relays from Relpol

Date of publication: 01-07-2024 🕒 4 min read

Relpol is one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of relays. The company has been present on the market for more than 60 years and today it can boast a broad portfolio of solutions, which contains various kinds of relays, among others: railway industry, industrial plug-in, high-power, interface, time, monitoring, and miniature relays. The latter category includes products that we recommend to our customers this week: the RM84, RM85 and RM96 series, designed for industrial applications.

Electromagnetic relays are among the basic and most widely used automation components, as they provide galvanic isolation between the controller and the load, and at the same time make it possible to switch on/off high-power circuits with low energy consumption. That is why they are used in industrial machines as well as various types of equipment for public spaces (lifts, building automation) and household appliances.

The relays from the RM84 and RM85 series are housed in IP67 rated enclosures (IP40 for the transparent enclosure version) and are designed to be soldered directly onto a PCB or inserted into a socket. The products are available with SPDT contact configuration (2 NO contacts) or DPDT contact configuration (2 CO contacts). The rated current for resistive loads can be either 8 A (RM84 series) or 16 A (RM85 series). It should be noted that the manufacturer offers versions with three contact types: AgNi, AgNi/Au (hard gold plating) and AgSnO2. For demanding applications exposed to inrush currents, Relpol has manufactured an “inrush” version (RM85 only). Products in this group have been adapted for switching circuits where the current can reach up to 80 A (max. 20 ms), i.e. they can be used in switched-mode and transformer power supply circuits, motor and actuator control, etc.

The RM96 relays can also be mounted on a PCB or in a socket. Contact configuration in these products is either SPST-NO, SPST-NC or SPDT. All versions are suitable for switching currents of 8 A and are IP67 rated (except for the transparent version).

All the series described here are available in most common voltage variants. Their coils require power supply voltage ranging from 5 V to 110 V DC, and from 12 V to 240 V AC (naturally, these values depend on the model).
