Source code is a human-created record of programming instructions in a high- or low-level programming language that defines the logic of a computer program or control system. It is the basic form of software representation, being the starting point for further processing by Compilers, Interpreters or assemblers, which transform it into machine code understandable by the processor.
Source code contains the structure of algorithms, variable declarations, data operations, control instructions, function calls and definitions of interfaces with the operating system and hardware. It can be written in general-purpose languages such as C, Java, Python or C++, or in specialised languages, e.g. VHDL in electronics or SQL in databases. The form of the source code is human readable and forms the basis for the work of developers, analysts and maintenance teams.
In the context of software engineering, source code is central to the system life cycle - from the design and implementation phase, through testing and documentation, to maintenance and development. Its quality, structure and compliance with good practices affect the reliability, security and performance of the final product. Well-written code is modular, understandable and amenable to modification, making it easy to develop and integrate with other components.
Source code can be stored in version control systems such as Git, enabling change tracking, multi-developer collaboration and project development history management. Depending on the software's licensing model, the source code can be publicly available (as in open source projects) or protected as intellectual property (in commercial solutions). Its analysis makes it possible to assess the performance of programmes, detect errors, perform security audits and optimise the operation of digital systems.
Transfer Multisort Elektronik (TME) is one of the world’s largest global distributors of electronic components, electrotechnical parts, workshop equipment, and industrial automation.
