Insulated electrotechnical tools by Wera

Date of publication: 02-03-2026 🕒 13 min read

Wera is a well-known hand tool manufacturer in many global markets. Their portfolio includes a wide range of specialized instruments for electrotechnical work, and a significant portion of this assortment can be purchased directly from TME warehouses.

Below, we present the offer of basic equipment for working with electrical installations or industrial machines and more. These are screwdrivers and wrenches from the brand Wera, a manufacturer appreciated by professional electricians worldwide. The presented assortment is limited exclusively to instruments with VDE certification and compliant with the international IEC 60900 standard related to insulated tools. Consequently, this equipment can be used in professional applications and provides proper user protection.

In this article, we cover topics such as:

Screwdrivers

First, we present a selection of screwdrivers, which are the most commonly used instruments in electrotechnical work. Due to numerous applications and diverse needs, the Wera tool assortment in this segment is divided into several categories and types. Primarily, these are classic screwdrivers (also with interchangeable tips), but there are also more specialized instruments.

Universal Screwdrivers

"Classic" Wera screwdrivers for electrical work have specially profiled handles made of non-slip polymers (with a hexagonal cross-section to prevent rolling), with blades covered with an insulating layer. Besides typical versions, the manufacturer has also prepared "slim" variants, characterized by a tapered blade towards the tip, facilitating manipulation of screws in narrow openings, e.g., fastening elements placed in sleeves and screw clamps of modules placed on a DIN rail (circuit breakers, residual current devices, relays, etc.). You can also find torque screwdrivers and voltage testers (with a traditional design based on a neon bulb).

It is worth noting that Wera screwdrivers come in various sizes, e.g., the tool length can reach up to 312mm. There is also a wide range of blade types available. Besides flat and Phillips tips, there are versions with Pozidriv®, Torx®, hexagonal (Allen), and socket (e.g., 5.5…13mm).

Handles and Interchangeable Shafts

The mechanism in the handle is designed for maximum durability.

A significant part of the Wera screwdriver assortment consists of tools with interchangeable tips. It should be noted that besides typical ratchets, the manufacturer provides two special versions of handles. The first are handles with an integrated Kraftform Turbo mechanism, which, using a mechanical gear (without batteries and additional drive), increases the rotational speed of the bit socket by 4 times. Other specialized handles have a torque clutch, with adjustable maximum achievable torque (ranging from 0.3…3.5Nm, depending on the model). This allows avoiding excessive tightening of connectors and terminals, which could lead to damage to contacts and copper wires.

The described handles have a 1/4 inch hex socket. Therefore, they are compatible with most "bits" available on the market, but Wera also offers its own selection of tips. These products are designed for electrotechnical applications – they differ from standard accessories. Primarily, they have long blades and are almost entirely covered with dielectric material (they can work with voltages up to 1kV AC). Most products are 157mm long.

The long blade tip is covered with an insulator up to the tip.

Customers can choose from a wide range of tip types, equipped with all popular blade types used in installation modules, electrotechnical devices, industrial machines. The assortment also includes triangular and square sockets for opening distribution/control cabinets.

Screwdriver Sets

When preparing a new tool set or modernizing the technical base, a convenient solution is to purchase a factory set of screwdrivers. Wera offers several such solutions containing both screwdrivers and handles with interchangeable tips.

Most sets are delivered with additional accessories for storage. This can be a case with compartments or a hanger/shelf for wall mounting (e.g., on a tool board). The most numerous sets contain 18 and 26 elements, including screwdrivers, handles, tips, voltage testers, and in some cases, additional accessories like a bottle opener.

Wrenches

Wrenches are the second important group of electrotechnical tools from Wera. Two types should be distinguished here: self-adjusting and socket wrenches. In both cases, these are insulated accessories, with handles having a profile preventing the hand from slipping onto the metal part. They are made in the typical red-yellow color scheme for electrotechnical instruments.

Self-Adjusting Wrenches

As the name suggests, self-adjusting wrenches allow for operating screws of various sizes. It is enough for the screw head to be made in a hexagonal format and its diameter to fall within a specified range. Thanks to such a mechanism, the tools not only speed up work but also remain compatible with both metric and inch elements. They can, for example, grip sizes 7…10mm, which translates to a range from 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch. Overall, tools of this type are adapted to screws from 7mm to 19mm.

From the TME catalog, self-adjusting wrenches (Joker 6004 VDE) can be purchased individually or in a set. In the latter case, the tools additionally have a dedicated case protecting the instruments during transport.

Adjustable wrenches

Socket Wrenches

The vast majority of Wera electrotechnical wrenches are socket elements. This is mainly due to their versatility, ease of adaptation, and suitability for most typical elements used in machines/installations. They allow operating clamps securing connectors/contacts, as well as dismantling enclosures, operating mechanical elements, etc. The products are designed so that they can also serve for regular mechanical work.

The sockets themselves are also covered with dielectric material. They have a 3/8 inch socket. They are available in classic hexagonal formats (from 4mm to 19mm), as well as supporting Torx® screws (20…45).

Socket handles are available in the form of a ratchet arm. The clutch is equipped with 80 teeth, providing smooth movement in both directions and convenient operation in tight spaces. Insulated extensions up to 166mm long also help with this. Alternatively, a T-handle can be used, which facilitates not only screw assembly but also making adjustments or initially loosening connections. In each case, the socket has a tip retention function.

Tool Sets

Above, we described tool sets consisting of tools of one type, but the TME catalog also includes sets containing instruments of various types. Not only the aforementioned wrenches and screwdrivers but also cutting pliers and blades for removing outer sheaths from cables. These sets are delivered in closed, textile, hardened cases equipped with compartments and gripping loops, ensuring that accessories remain organized and are not damaged during transport in a toolbox, fieldwork, etc.
